We were looking for another boxer to join out family when we found Lola at a boxer rescue group in our area. Lola has been abused and abandoned but she was so sweet and full of life. She was a perfect fit for our family and we fell in love at first sight. Unfortunately, Lola developed Degenerative Myelopathy after a little over a year with us. She began losing the use of her back legs and dragging them behind her, sometimes tearing the skin off the top of her paws. We have been carrying Lola outside to use the bathroom and throughout the house but we wanted her to have more mobility and get to go outside and play like she loved to do. We purchased a wheelchair for her to give her a better quality of life, so now she’s learning to walk again. And with a little help, hopefully, she will learn to run again!

My Frenchie is 11 years old. He came to us from Louisiana on an airplane. He is my best friend and is the most lovable dog I know. His legs have started to give out over the last few months and we bought the chair to help him along. Sometimes he isn’t quite sure about it but he’s always a trooper and does whatever is asked of him. His name is DeOgee. He’s a fawn Frenchie with a heart that will warm anyone’s soul.

This is Ozzie. He is a 3-year-old terrier-dachshund mix. He was diagnosed with IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease) in October. That means that a disc between two of his vertebrae deteriorated and caused him to become paralyzed overnight. Through the help of a local non-profit pet hospital, The Pet Care Center, and their owner, Alex Kyrklund, Ozzie was able to get help. Alex is an avid supporter and fan of Best Friend Mobility. She suggested the wheelchair for Ozzie. It was the best recommendation I have ever received. We ordered your Best Friend Mobility chair and as soon as it arrived, Ozzie was up and walking again. The rear leg harness supports have helped him tremendously these last two months and he is now able to walk without them, where he can practice taking steps. He loves his wheelchair and we are so thankful for all Best Friend Mobility has done.

Tinkerbell is a 13-year-old Chihuahua who was unable to walk for nearly 3 months. She was brought to the vet numerous times regarding her back and how much pain she was in. She was unable to go down the stairs to go outside so we had to carry her outside and hold her up to potty. Once we got your wheelchair she was more comfortable with moving around and was able to start walking after 2 weeks. It was a blessing to have the wheelchair or we have had to make a decision we were not ready to make for her safety and the quality of her life.

Angel is an 11-year-old German shepherd who retired to the Kent coast a year ago. She is a happy old girl with a zest for life but is now suffering from CDRM and this has severely reduced her mobility. Over the past few months, she has lost control of her hind legs and was becoming depressed since she was no longer able to enjoy her daily beach walks. The Best Friend Mobility wheelchair, which we call her “chariot,” has given her back her life. As you can see, she is back on the promenade strutting her stuff taking in the sea air. Every day with Angel is a joy and so very precious. And to see her smiling again enjoying her walks is amazing. It took her 30 seconds to learn how to use the chariot and there has been no stopping her since then!

Shaggy was hit by a car or stepped on by a cow while he was with his previous owners 6 years ago. Their lifestyle made Shaggy’s world to be known in a kennel all day and night. He got out a few nights they were home, pulled himself around on carpet and grass outside—an uncomfortable /unhealthy situation for Shaggy. We adopted Shaggy 6 weeks ago. 4 days into his stay, my husband found his wheelchair. We strapped him in and off he went like he has had wheels all his life. No more sores on legs and belly, and grins all the time! He now cruises with the dogs, and cats love him. We didn’t know he could wag his tail nor move parts of his legs! We believe this chair is the start of a new recovery, great therapy, and a longer, loving life.

Pebbles is an 8-year-old pug who got attacked by another dog when she was little, which has left her disabled. That does not stop her. She is always keen to go for her walk each day and loves to chase her ball. She is full of life and is a dog that knows what she wants. She can be very bossy at times to me and to the other pug that we have.

We are Terry and Julie from East Sussex in the UK, and we run our own pet care business. Our beloved black labrador dog, Rowley, didn’t enjoy the best of health, suffering from epilepsy, laryngeal paralysis, generalized arthritis, and hip dysplasia. However, he was a happy dog and had much enjoyment from life even though he was nearly 14. But things got even worse at the end of July 2016 when he suddenly lost the use of his back legs. At first, we feared that we would have to have him put to sleep but the idea of a wheelchair to help him get about and enjoy more independence was worth looking into, just in case he could manage to use it despite his existing elbow problems.
After research, we found Best Friend Mobility wheelchair on Ebay and the price was, we thought, very reasonable. We are not very good at putting together flat pack furniture and so on, but despite our limitations with such things we found the wheelchair not too much trouble to construct.
The first use of the chair was challenging for us all, poor Rowley could not understand what was happening. But he soon got the hang of it and had a bit of a walk, encouraged by some biscuits. On second use he was raring to go, taking off to race down the garden before we had a chance to strap him in! He knew exactly what it was for and got very excited when we got out the wheelchair, knowing he could decide where to walk himself when using it rather than having to go where we carried him. It gave him freedom and independence.

Meet Riki. We adopted Riki through a German shepherd dog rescue group in 2011. He appeared to be around 4 or 5 years old at the time and had been found wandering the streets of San Leandro. He has been a wonderful companion for the last 5 and a half years—the perfect family pet. He began showing symptoms of Degenerative Myelopathy around May of 2016 and he has been gradually losing the ability to walk ever since. We bought him his Best Friend Mobilty chair in mid-October 2016 and he loves being able to go for walks again. He still likes to stop and sniff every shrub and tree. We know we don’t have a lot of time left with him and we want him to be able to enjoy that time.

Tex is my beautiful best friend of 9 ½ years. He was given to me as a puppy so I have never been 100% sure what actual breed he is but there would have to be a working dog in there. We have run thousands of kilometers together over the years due to my love of running and the beach and we've barely missed a day. Most days running mornings and night, and active all weekend with me. He has lots of human and dog friends all over the place. So, it was completely heartbreaking and traumatic when Tex had a freak accident running for a ball while I was working away. His spinal cord was swollen with fluid leading to paralysis of his back legs, loss of sensation and ability to walk, run, or jump. As such an active dog, I grieved for him and had no idea what to do when my friend bought Tex a cart with harness and wheels and we haven't looked back. It's been 2 1/2; months and he has adapted so well. He has movement and feeling back in his legs although he cannot hold weight so his future is still unclear. At this stage, though, he is truly happy running in his cart along the beach and into the ocean. Good to see him happy in a difficult time.

Meg was a Jack Russell who loved life. Going tot the beach, sleeping her days away, and eating were her favourite things to do. She started having back problems in the last 12 months; it was a progressive nerve and disc problem. We purchased her buddy to her freedom when she lost all use of her back legs. It was easy to put together and to put Meg into, even by one person. And every time we took her buddy out, it always sparked a pack walk. She absolutely loved every minute spent in it. It allowed her to wee as normal and interact with her fur sisters in the last days and weeks of her life. Meg was 15 when she passed.
