Briefly, Buddy is 14 years old and recently suffered from Myelomalacia, a ruptured disc. He has been able to move around a few rooms but it has become very limited. Buddy has gone out on a walk every morning for 14 years. Recently, he could barely make it out the door before he was turning around to come back inside. After our last gorgeous German Shepherd died 9 years ago we went along to Dogs Trust Newbury. They had just had in a stray saved from a death sentence in a police dog pound in Ireland. He came with no history, was about two years old and was friendly, but quite wild, he didn’t seem to have had any training at all. He was so skinny and had constant diarrhoea. We took him home, with some special food provided for his upset tummy. The first day home I was unpacking the shopping, left the kitchen for a moment, when I came back Paddy was halfway through a frozen pizza! Since then he’s put on 7 kg (not all from pizza) and maintained a healthy weight all his life. After 2 years of dog training and socialising classes (he was a slow learner!) we had a beautiful, friendly, food- and cuddle-loving dog. We went for long, long walks every day, and even longer on our holidays. He was my little shadow, following me everywhere, snoozing with me on the sofa and the bed. I say “was” because now he can’t get on the sofa or upstairs to the bed. We noticed him dragging his foot occasionally 2 years ago. Degenerative myelopathy was diagnosed last year, and with mobility and incontinence it has gone downhill pretty quickly. We had been trying to take him on short walks by half carrying him with a hoist for his rear end, so difficult, half a German Shepherd is very heavy to carry for any distance. I was reluctant to get a wheel cart, but my husband went ahead and ordered it, and I’m so glad he did. Though his walks are still short, he can go “off road” easily, sniff and stop and pee whenever he wants (which helps with leakage in the house) and is making loads of new friends, becoming a bit of a celebrity in the village in fact, as people are even stopping their cars to talk to us. He’s still our happy little dog—with wheels.

Benny is a Dachshund mix and is about 7 years old. Up until four months ago, he lived outside. From what we've learned, he was hit by a car at least 4 years ago and was left untreated. Three years ago he dragged himself up to a house where an elderly man lived. The man fed Benny until he passed away. Benny then dragged himself up the road again and was found in a kind woman's driveway. She was able to get him to folks who help rescue and they, in turn, got him to HEART. Benny is an exceptionally sweet dog! He can get around great and is very fast, even without a wheelchair. He has some issues with incontinence and must wear a belly band indoors, but outdoors he scoots around or runs around (depending on if he's in his wheelchair or not). He has quickly picked up using the SitGo wheelchair and is getting better about pushing up with his front legs from a "down" position. As he practices with the chair, we expect him to be an expert in no time.

Her name is Cassie, or affectionately known as Mutt Face. She’s an 8-year-old boxer. She started with signs of degenerative myelopathy the same day as my wife Debbie was diagnosed with breast cancer, back in mid-August 2015. Mutt Face has really taken to her new chariot the last few days as it’s giving her a little freedom that she didn’t have. We’re hoping to make her final months great ones.

Sirius was a stray that showed up on our doorstep 8 years ago. We felt bad for her and initially had decided to let her stay in our 1-acre fenced-in back yard. Of course, it wasn't long before she became an inside dog and joined became a full-fledged member of the family. In December of 2016, Sirius was out enjoying the backyard as she usually did. That evening I called for her to come inside for the night but she did not ever come. I was afraid that she may have found a way out of the fenced-in yard. I put on my shoes and walked out into the yard to look for her. I quickly found her sitting in the yard. I kept calling but she would only drag her rear end across the grass and whine. We took her to the vet early the next morning and they sent us to an emergency vet for x-rays and further testing. Months later we still have no real answer as to what actually has caused her paralysis. She has regained use of one of her rear legs. The other rear leg has little to no use. She continues physical therapy and we still hold hope that she will regain some use of that leg as well. In the meantime, our Best Friend Mobility wheelchair has been a godsend helping Sirius regain some of her mobility and keep her active. She loves being able to get out and move through the yard freely again.

We've had Roxy from a puppy of six weeks old. We have had the best years of our lives with Roxy; she is our family princess. Roxy has been to Cornwall, UK on holidays and paddled in the sea. Roxy has run alongside daddy on his mountain bike through forests and woods. Roxy is now nearly 12 years old and had been as fit as a butcher’s dog until these last 6 months, where her arthritis and spinal chord problems have slowly led to her unable to use her hind legs. In the house, she slides around everywhere on wooden floors. We purchased a mobility chair for Roxy and it has enabled her to for walks out now to her favourite parks and trails. The fuss Roxy gets in her mobility chair is unbelievable. She is loving all of it. The mobility chair is a second lease of life for Roxy and has been a blessing.
